Pantene Colour of the Year - Mocha Mousse

This year embraces warmth and comfort. While many cling to the monochrome palette, the hue of mocha will shine through. I vaguely remember mentioning "latte luxury" not too long ago, and my little friends remind me of that. So, I hope to be accurate with my predictions this time. Ultimately, it’s not about being right or wrong, but rather understanding where the economy is heading and identifying what people need to foster a sense of safety for everyone.

If you do like the trends, knowing what is hot, is what I call mocha glaze, or you may have heard of mocka chrome. The IT colour for your nails this Summer. I was doing it a year or two ago back in 21, but this - glaze or chrome just adds that spark that reinvents it. It looks more like a chromatic rose gold.

How can we incorporate this yummy colour into our homes and designs?
It's straightforward with shades of brown, but it's crucial to choose the right type. Too dark can create discomfort, while too light may feel a bit chilly.
Here’s an excerpt from my previous article in Informed Investor last year.

Latte tones

As the end of Autumn approaches, these beautiful auburn, latte, and copper tones set the scene for the coming winter months. With winter comes thicker textured fabrics, especially for the iconic New Zealand Villa. Often subject to being colder in the winter months, after all villas were constructed in ‘pre-35’ over 100 years now, which is a testament to the quality and durability of the construction.

To keep a villa snug and cosy, an easy solution can be as simple as adding a new rug and drapes.  Many villas have a heightened ceiling of 3 meters plus -therefore it is common to have custom curtains (off the shelf options may not provide the best solution unfortunately).  James Dunlop has many beautiful fabrics in an array of collections available, the Banksia range is a stunning heavy fabric - it would keep any cold drafts at bay.  I am also enjoying the Satori Stonewash by MOKUM collection – it is a wide fabric, perfect for those larger drops needed for a high stud home.  With these new collections, chose a colourway that has those dreamy latte tones, soft browns, or caramels.

Curtains are an excellent way to introduce brown tones, but it's essential to pair brown with the right undertones to ensure they complement each other without clashing. This detail makes a significant difference. I personally love taupe undertones and even green-beige. In my upcoming blog, I’ll share how I select the appropriate undertones to harmonize décor with interiors, and be sure to look out for my workshop in February 2025.
